HELD IN TRUST CATALOGUE

The HELD IN TRUST exhibition - which was held at SFX throughout August and September - was a stunning success, with over 12,000 visitors. You can still obtain a copy of the lavishly illustrated, 200 page, catalogue with full-colour pictures of the 70+ artefacts accompanied by a detailed explanation of each. It also contains essays by leading scholars on the various periods covered - Medieval, Reformation, Recusant, Jacobite, Gothic Revival, plus Jesuits and the Wider World. The cost is £10 per copy, which includes postage and package in the UK - postage outside the UK varies. Contact SFX if you would like to buy a copy of this beautiful memento.

ORDINATION OF STEPHEN PATTERSON SJ

At 12.30pm on Saturday 1st November, Archbishop Patrick Kelly ordained to the priesthood, Stephen Patterson SJ. Stephen is from Oldham and on Sunday 2nd he said his first Mass in his home parish. The Liverpool Archdiocesan Lourdes Choir and organist, Terry Crolley - under the direction of Fr Peter Scally SJ - provided the music; parishioners from SFX catered for the 250 people who attended. It was a moving and uplifting occasion and pictures of the ceremony will be featured in the December edition of the Catholic Pictorial.

TRIP TO KRACOW

On 30th November, 24 members of SFX parish will be travelling to Kracow in Poland for a four-day visit. The trip culminates in a Mass on 3rd December - the feast of St Francis Xavier. On the 4th December, the day after they return, SFX celebrates the 160th anniversary of its opening.

SFX is 160 YEARS OLD

On Thursday 4th December, SFX will be 160 years old. The main celebratory event was the exhibition HELD in TRUST - which attracted over 12,000 visitors. On the following Sunday - the 7th December - the 10.15 Mass will be followed by a birthday party with cake, wine and soft drinks. Why not join us?

GIVE SFX A 160th BIRTHDAY PRESENT

We have been fortunate in acquiring the services of a stonemason to renovate the 14 Stations of the Cross which adorn the walls of the church. These carvings were installed soon after the church opened in 1848 and are made of Caen limestone. The total cost of the work will cost £4,500 and we are inviting donors to \'Sponsor a Station\'. The amount of work needed on each Station varies - from Station I, which will cost £80 to replace a soldier\'s spear - to recarving the arms and whips of the two soldiers of Station VII at a cost of £720.00. Further details are contained on a leaflet available from SFX church.

Christmas Panto 2008

On Friday 19th December 50 parishioners will descend on the Liverpool Empire to watch their Christmas Panto - Cinderella - starring Cilla Black. The last time Cilla starred in a Panto there, was as Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk. When the time came for her to kill the giant, she asked the audience, \'How shall I kill him, folks?\' From the stalls came the voice of a small child shouting,\'Why not sing to him?\' Out of the mouth of babes..... After Christmas, our Altar Servers will be attending the panto at the Everyman.

A NEW HISTORY OF SFX

On 4th December St Francis Xxavier\'s church celebrates it\'s 160th birthday. The history and guide to SFX, which was produced by Johnny Kennedy for the 150th anniversary, has been updated and is now available from the church at a cost of £2.95 (£4 including P&P in UK). It makes an ideal Christmas present and former parishioners and friends would be delighted to receive a copy - along with the stunning catalogue of the historic exhibition, HELD IN TRUST.
